Red Wine Chocolate Cake

My Best Friend caught a flight up to visit me on a whim and I love nothing more than spending time with her. We went over to Serious Pie and underneath there was a small wine shop (Soul Wine) having a wine tasting with chocolate pairings, so of course, we stopped in and then purchased a bottle of red. Also of course - we ate all the chocolate while watching chick flicks and passed out while barely getting a glass of red wine down so I had to figure out what to do with the wine! Meanwhile, fortune struck and I was due at a dinner party with dessert in my hands - so this recipe on Curly Girl Kitchen was perfect!

Red Wine Chocolate Cake

Ingredients for Cake
1 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar + 2 tablespoons
1/4 cup cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup red wine
1 teaspoon vanilla

Ingredients for Ganache
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate
1/2 cup cream

Directions for Cake
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a cake pan well. Mix all ingredients together and dump into pan. Bake 28 minutes.

Directions for Ganache
Heat the cream over the stove until the bubble just start to form. Remove from heat and add chocolate. Stir until shiny.

Drizzle the ganache on top of the cake and smooth out - let cool and enjoy.
